Jimmy is a 2-year-old black scruffy boy who we rescued from Poroszló, near the Tisza river. He should have his whole life ahead of him, but right now he is fighting a serious and dangerous illness: Heartworm.

Recent veterinary examinations confirmed that Jimmy has a large number of heartworms in the pulmonary artery, which is already causing pulmonary hypertension. These parasites live in the heart and blood vessels and can become life-threatening if not treated quickly.

The vets recommend urgent surgery to remove the worms. The surgery alone costs 580,000 HUF, and Jimmy will also need:

• Heart medication afterwards

• Chest X-rays

• Control ultrasound before and after the procedure

• Another check-up two weeks later

Because of these additional tests and medications, the total treatment cost will be around 700,000 HUF.

For a small rescue like ours, this is an enormous amount, but it is Jimmy’s chance to live.

Jimmy is still young. He deserves to run, play, and enjoy life without parasites slowly damaging his heart.
